Chad Lucanas is still buzzing from the weekend.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old lightweight prospect scored a first-round KO over Trai Santos in his bare knuckle fighting debut at BKFC Prospect Series at the sold-out River Cree Resort & Casino in his hometown of Edmonton.
“Man, it’s surreal,” he says.
“I’m still just processing the fact that I fought for BKFC,” he adds with a big laugh. “It’s so crazy. I can hardly believe I was able to get that opportunity and take advantage of it.”
Lucanas is a barber by trade who was previously pursuing a career in gloved boxing. But now that he’s dropped his gloves, he’s ready to make his run with BKFC.
“I love it – that was so much fun,” he says.
“That was some of the rawest (expletive) I’ve ever done. You don’t get that type of adrenaline from a regular boxing match; that was like a professional street fight!”
Lucanas had the time of his life in the BKFC Squared Circle, but it isn’t just about having fun. As a first-generation Canadian whose family hails from the Philippines, Lucanas is working tirelessly to establish himself as a professional athlete.
“My family came here years ago to find new opportunities and lay down their roots. With me being the first of my family born in Canada, I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to be born in a land of abundance and opportunity,” Lucanas says.
“BKFC will give me the opportunity to change the legacy of my bloodline and continue on the tradition of hard work that has brought us to this point.”
