Connor Tierney cracked a smile when he learned that combat sports icon Conor McGregor had become a part owner of BKFC.
“I was very happy when I heard the news,” Tierney says.
“I’m happy that BKFC is getting the recognition that it deserves, and I think this is a massive turning point. It’s going to provide a ton of opportunities for fighters. This is going to benefit everybody, and it’s a really good feeling to be a part of it.”
Tierney sees a lot of similarities between himself and McGregor.
“I want to leave a legacy with BKFC – I want to be remembered a bit like the Conor McGregor of this sport,” the 29-year-old Birmingham, UK fighter says. “I’ve got all the attributes in terms of personality, charisma, character – and, most importantly, I can fight.
“My biggest goal is to be a BKFC World Champion, and I want to be a household name in combat sports.”
Tierney’s next fight is for the inaugural BKFC United Kingdom Welterweight Championship. He takes on the unbeaten Jonny Graham (2-0, 2 KOs) in the Main Event of BKFC 64 on Aug. 10 at the Coventry Skydome in Coventry, UK, LIVE on The BKFC App. The "Brum Town Bomber" is eager to turn the page on his loss to Jake Lindsey in the Main Event of BKFC 37 in March, 2023.
A loss is never the desired outcome for a fighter, but Tierney is certainly making the most of his defeat to Lindsey.
“I wasn’t prepared enough for that fight, and that’s on me. Mentally I wasn’t ready for that fight,” Tierney says. “That fight was a wake-up call. I’m so much better now. I’m stronger, I’m faster, I’m more technically sound, and my mindset is where it needs to be.
“That fight made me realize that I need to take things a lot more seriously if I want to achieve my goals in this game.”
The next obstacle standing in the way of Tierney’s super-sized ambitions is the unbeaten Graham, who will be hunting for his third straight KO victory in Coventry.
Tierney’s prediction for fight night is the exact opposite.
“Knockout,” he says matter of factly.
“He’s getting folded like a freshly ironed shirt.”
