Former gloved boxing standout Derrick Findley is here to stay with BKFC.
“BKFC is the fastest growing sport in the world. It’s getting huge, and I like to be a part of (expletive) that’s huge,” the Indiana, IN welterweight says.
“Boxing just ain’t it.”
Findley says most professional gloved boxers are too obsessed with chasing clout, and politics have stunted the growth of the sport.
Findley says it isn’t just the gloves that are absent from BKFC – politics won’t be found in the Squared Circle either.
“BKFC doesn’t work like that,” he says.
“The best fight the best here, and that’s what I want to be a part of.”
Findley has fought as a professional gloved boxer nearly 70 times since his pro debut in 2005. His resume includes 25 wins by knockout and a number of high-profile title bouts. But he says he would’ve chosen BKFC over gloved boxing earlier in his career, had he had the option to do so.
“BKFC is about great fights. It’s not about padding records – it’s about great fights, excitement, entertainment,” he says. “That’s how boxing was at one point, but now everybody wants the life of Floyd Mayweather. They want to be 50-0, but they never wanna step up and fight.”
Findley can’t go back in time, but he is eager to build his future with BKFC. On Friday he earned his first victory in the Squared Circle with a third-round TKO over Sergio Lopez at the sold-out National Western Center in Denver. He’s hoping for a quick turnaround. He has big goals with BKFC, and he doesn’t want to stay on the sidelines long.
“I want to be one of the greatest bare knuckle fighters who ever did it,” he says. “I want to be BKFC World Champion, of course, and I really want to do great things in this sport.”
