Edgard “The Dreamkiller” Plazaola is living the dream.
The hard-hitting featherweight is quickly establishing himself as one of the top rising stars in the world of bare knuckle fighting. On Friday, Plazaola smashed his way to 3-0 under the BKFC banner with a fourth-round TKO over Eric Dodson at the sold-out Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.
Plazaola emigrated to the United States from Nicaragua as a teenager. His family didn’t see a positive future for him in his home country, so it was decided he’d become an American citizen.
“I had goals for what I wanted to accomplish in the United States, but fighting was the last thing on my mind at that time,” he says with a laugh. “I came here with ‘The American Dream,’ like most immigrants.”
Flash forward a few years and Plazaola is one of the most promising fighters in the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion.
Plazaola is very proud to compete as the only Nicaraguan fighter on the BKFC roster, and he’s very gracious for the support that he’s received from fans in his country of birth.
“It’s really overwhelming; I couldn’t be happier right now,” Plazaola says. “I’m making more of an effort to represent where I’m from. It’s an honor for me to make them proud.”
BKFC is rapidly expanding across the globe. There’s unlimited potential for the sport in Latin America, Plazaola says, and he’d like to help bring the world famous Squared Circle to Nicaragua in the future.
“I love the United States – it’s given me so many opportunities – and I love my new hometown of Miami, but it would be a true honor and a dream come true to bring an event with the magnitude of BKFC to where I was born,” he says.
Plazaola has other big goals with BKFC.
“I want to make it to the top,” he says.
“My goal is to keep winning, stack my record up, and eventually be the BKFC World Featherweight Champion. Besides that, I want to leave a mark on this sport. BKFC is still such a young sport that I see myself as a pioneer – I want to earn my spot in the Hall of Fame, and I want people to remember my name.”
