Fighting is fun for Stanislav Grosu.
A certain type of joy arises when a grueling training camp gives way to a masterful performance in the Squared Circle.
That’s what made his most recent fight – a fourth-round stoppage loss to Brandon Shavers in February – such a disappointing experience.
“That wasn’t me in there,” the Moldovan-born Ashburn, VA fighter says.
“Everything was so weird, and I didn’t have any fun. My game plan went out the window. Those long hooks? I never do those in training, and that’s just one example.
“This time I’m going to have fun.”
Grosu returns to the Squared Circle against Alonzo Martinez (3-0, 2 KO) at BKFC Fight Night Omaha on May 17 at Liberty First Arena in Omaha, NE, LIVE worldwide on The BKFC App. Grosu looks to up his record to 4-3 with a fourth stoppage victory in the Squared Circle.
“I’m going to fight my way, and it’s going to be nice,” he says.
“I train the same way for all of my fights – very hard – but in the past I’ve strayed too far away from what makes me a dangerous fighter. I’ve altered my approach for different opponents in the past; now I’m just going to fight my way and have fun.”
More than having fun, Grosu knows he needs a big win in Omaha. The 31-year-old fighter still has big goals in the stacked BKFC middleweight division.
“I want the belt, and I want big fights.”
