James “Get Down” Brown is still undefeated after winning at BKFC Prospect Series last week, but he remains his own toughest critic.
“I’d give my performance a ‘D’ – I don’t like my performance at all,” Brown says when asked about his third-round TKO over Ukrainian contender Bovar Khanakov on Friday at the sold-out Salisbury Center in Manassas, VA.
“I know I could’ve done a lot better, and that’s exactly what I told my coaches right after. I felt a little better after watching the video, but I made a lot of mistakes.”
But Brown isn’t sitting and dwelling on any errors or missteps he made on fight night – the fast-rising Wilmington, NC featherweight is already back in the lab.
“I want to fight immediately. I’d fight tomorrow if I could,” Brown says with a laugh.
“My knuckles are fine, I’m healthy. I will be sharpening up, but I want to get back in there as soon as possible.”
Now 3-0, Brown is currently the No. 4 contender in the stacked BKFC 145-pound division, which is currently ruled by undefeated BKFC World Featherweight Champion Kai Stewart (5-0).
“It seems like everybody is fine just to sit out and wait for their opportunity to fight Kai, but that’s not me,” Brown says.
“I’m poor. I want to fight as often as I can, keep winning, collect my paychecks and work my way to the top. I don’t want a fast track to the top; I just want to beat all the top guys they put in front of me.”
