John “The Magician” Dodson always gives BKFC fans what they crave.
Although he didn’t deliver a KO on Friday in the Main Event of BKFC 59, his fight with Dagoberto Aguero had fans on the edge of their seats for five back-and-forth rounds at the sold-out Tingley Coliseum in Dodson’s hometown of Albuquerque, NM.
“I felt like I did amazing,” Dodson says.
“I went out there and I gave BKFC fans the kind of fight that they always want to see. They wanted to see me go into deep waters, swing for the fences and see myself get tested.”
The judges all agreed that the fight was a draw (46-46), and Dodson retained his belt at the conclusion of the fifth round. New Mexico rules don’t allow a sixth, tiebreaker round, but Dodson was ready to put an exclamation point on his first title defense.
“I was toeing the line at the end of the fifth round,” Dodson says.
“My mouthpiece was back in my mouth, and I was ready to go.”
Dodson wants to return to the Squared Circle as quickly as possible – be it against Aguero or any of the other top BKFC flyweight contenders.
“Anything that BKFC wants me to do, that’s what’s next,” he says.
“I don’t want to do an immediate rematch with a guy who’s going to run away from me for 10 minutes. Not only did he run away from me for 10 minutes, he missed 60 percent of the punches that he threw. He clipped me with one, but I dropped the dude, I beat him up, I pushed the pace.”
